product review: lucy’s perfect core collection

lucy's Perfect Core Bra and Knee Pant

I received a few samples from lucy to try out, and I have to say – the Perfect Core collection is…pretty darn perfect.  They are not paying me to say this, and I promise you, dear readers, that I wouldn’t ever write something that I didn’t believe.  So read on for my review:

The Perfect Core Bra is a compression racer-back style bra made with lucy’s powermax™ material, featuring lined bra cups that provide really great support (I went running, and my chest was held firmly in place).  I love lucy’s powermax™ fabric – it’s really soft and smooth, and it wicks, which is vital for any type of performance apparel.  Beyond the fantastic function of this bra, it’s also nice to look at – something that I can’t really say about many of the compression sports bras at my local sporting goods store.  Definitely a winner.

Now – remember how in my recent post about Samasthiti, I mentioned fighting the urge to fidget and adjust my clothes?  lucy’s Perfect Core Knee Pants are the solution I have been waiting for.  I’m not even kidding.  I have used them in several different yoga classes over the past few weeks and had to pull up my pants exactly ZERO times.  We did backbends, inversions, and some arm balances – and my pants didn’t budge.  Amazing.

The secret?  According to the lucy website: “using xBAR technology (eXtreme Body Reforming & Alignment) and the ultra-compressive lucy powermax™, the Perfect Core Pant features strategically placed mesh insets on the abdominals and lower back, reminding you to keep the core engaged and your body in alignment.”   It really works.  It’s easier to remember to engage your abs when wearing these pants (they push you in all the right places), and because of the super smooth fit, if you’re practicing in a room with mirrors (like at my gym) you can see your body line without any weird bulkiness like what you might get with a drawstring waist.  Love love LOVE these pants.   And if you’re looking for something similar, but in a full length version, lucy carries the Perfect Core Pant in lengths.

So there you go – two pieces that are pretty awesome, that hold everything in, and look and feel great.  For more information on these products, check out the lucy website here.

shop: lily lotus boutique (Honolulu, HI)

Lily Lotus Boutique

Honolulu’s blossoming yoga culture is apparent here at Lily Lotus – a tiny boutique located right near Yoga Hawaii and a hop and a skip away from Open Space Yoga – Monsarrat.  I walked in to browse the goods and check out their selection of yoga mats, as I’d neglected to bring one with me on vacation.

They carry Jade and Manduka yoga mats (the good stuff) along with accessories (blocks, straps, etc).  I found  some lululemon apparel mixed in with their Lily Lotus stuff, but the majority of the clothing is by Lily Lotus, naturally.  My favorite things include the jewelry – particularly pieces from Satya & Maya Papaya: delicate and beautifully crafted earrings are my downfall, and I walked out with a pair of dainty gold earrings with green stones.

One of the best things about Lily Lotus is, not only are they the premier resource in Honolulu for yoga supply, but they know what’s going on with the yoga studios around them.  I was able to ask for recommendations on classes for my visit, and the girl answering all my question was so nice (that’s the Aloha Spirit in action).  I would definitely recommend this store to any yoginis living on O’ahu!

shop: lucy activewear at corte madera!

view from the fitting rooms

Anyone who knows me, knows I love any excuse to buy new stuff.  New yoga clothes can totally motivate me to go to class (hehe)!  I headed up to the Corte Madera Town Center this past weekend to get a sneak peek at lucy’s new summer styles in yoga wear, and to take advantage of their 30% off birthday sale, and ended up trying on an array of tops and bottoms with the assistance of the super friendly staff.  Because of the event, the small store was buzzing with customers…after getting into a fitting room, I ended up walking away with two tanks that held everything in place, and looked wicked cute too!

I believe this tank is from last season, but Sean Corne looked so great in it, I wanted one for myself.  You can’t see it in the photo, but I’m also wearing lucy’s Power Pant (which I didn’t purchase because I’m holding out for the Power Pant II, made with a different technical fabric – they didn’t have my size in stock).  Now…off to find some more yoga pants that work with my “healthy” calves – any recommendations are welcome!

products i love: lululemon Super Sweat One’R

my new favorite yoga attire

I love, love, LOVE lululemon, but I often can’t justify shelling out $80 for a pair of pants.  But – I happened upon this really great one piece yoga suit on the sale rack at the lululemon store down the street from my gym.  It looks like a top with shorts attached, but what’s great is that since it’s a one piece, you get full coverage when you’re doing inversions (because seriously, I don’t have amazing abs, and no one really wants to see my pasty white stomach in a headstand.  You’re welcome.)  I also really like this style since it’s quite balletic, and I can get usage out of this during dance class.  They describe this as perfect for Hot Yoga, but my classes aren’t heated, so I throw on a pair of pants OVER the bottoms.  If you don’t know the fabulosity of lululemon’s Luon fabric, you need to check it out.  It wicks like crazy, perfect if you get super sweaty during vigorous workouts.  Now, the sad thing for you is – lululemon has sold out of this product.  But they have dozens of other similarly awesome Luon products, and NO, I’m not being paid to say this!  Check out the other great stuff here.
